Biography

Nicole Nodland is an acclaimed photographer and visual artist whose work blends cinematic storytelling with intimate, emotive portraits.

Discovered by Prince in her early 20s, Nicole quickly became the legendary artist’s personal photographer, capturing iconic moments of his life and career.

Nicole’s collaboration with Prince helped define the visual language of the Symbol era, and she remained the artist’s trusted associate, documenting his performances, intimate moments, and personal portraits, for many years.

In addition to her work with Prince, her creative vision extended into the music world in momentous ways. She played a pivotal role in shaping the visual identity of Lana Del Rey’s debut album, Born to Die, creating some of the most memorable and iconic imagery associated with the singer. Her photographs helped set the tone for the album’s dark, romantic, and cinematic aesthetic, solidifying her place as one of the most sought-after photographers in contemporary music and fashion.

Since then, Nicole has gone on to work with such talents as Jacob Collier, Dua Lipa, Sinéad O'Connor, Sam Smith, Florence & The Machine, and Paul Weller. Her photos have also since graced the pages of publications such as Vogue, Elle, Numéro, Nylon, and Rolling Stone, among many others.

In 2017, Nodland launched Us of America, a magazine dedicated to celebrating American spirit. The publication showcases the work of both established photographers, such as Bruce Gilden, Alec Soth, Larry Fink, and Charles Traub, as well as emerging talent.

She is currently working on Land of Clouds, a global online destination for artists and tastemakers, due to launch in early 2025.
